A young mother has revealed she 'cried' after first catching glimpse of her newborn baby as she thought he was 'so ugly'.
Jess, who is based in the UK and posts on TikTok under the username @jbag17, said she was in 'shock' after labour, which led to an unusual reaction towards her new baby.
The 20-year-old shared a sweet black-and-white snapshot of herself and her son, Jovi, after giving birth in the hospital.
'Was it the hormones of did I have the cutest newborn?!' she gushed.
But after taking a closer look at her baby, she joked that she 'stared at him' and 'cried'.
She said:'Jk I literally stared at him and cried cause I thought he was so ugly while I was in shock after labour.'
Luckily, she said she began to find him 'cute' after a 'few hours'.
Jess's video has since gone viral, racking up over a million views - with some people comparing her baby to 'Vladimir Putin' or 'Mr Burns' [from The Simpsons] son' in the comments.
Jess, from the UK, revealed she 'cried' and stared at her baby as she thought he was 'so ugly'
However, others didn't see the funny side, and even said she was being 'cruel'.
They wrote: 'I think this is actually so cruel';
'Baby’s first bully';
'If this is his fist day imagine what the rest of his life will be. Please be kind to your child, this is heartbreaking to watch.'
Jess responded: 'Dw he’s saving up for a nose job so after that the rest of his life will be fine x'
And replying to a comment calling her weird, she said: 'Oh so I guess u didn’t have any meds or experience any shock when you gave birth! Lucky :) x'
Others were quick to share similar experiences, writing: 'Looooool people are so sensitive. My daughter peaked at 6 months, before that, damn';
'My dad says I was the ugliest baby he’d ever seen';
However, despite the initial shock, Jess said she started to think he was cute 'after a few hours'
The young mother shared an adorable black and white picture cradling her son
'My first thing I said to my son was “your not very cute”.'
It appears Jess isn't the only one who expected an adorable baby - only to be met with disappointment.
Previously, brutally honest parents revealed the moment they realised their child was ugly.
With reasons ranging from oddly shaped head to large noses, parents didn't hesitate list the reasons why their offspring is unattractive.
Reddit user IAmTheOneWhoKn0cks wrote: 'When the nurses showed me my newborn after a C-section (and still on some pain meds obviously) I said hesitantly "Are you sure that's my baby...?
'He looked like a little rat with jet black hair and dark almost black eyes. I just...couldn't believe it.
'He has since grown into his looks and his eye colour and hair colour have changed. He's very cute now.''
And Rpgwaiter agreed, saying: 'I've kind of always known I guess. My son had a very odd shaped head due to birth complications, and he never really grew into it.
The post divided opinion, as some saw the funny side but others said it was 'cruel'
'I guess the moment that made me realise it was when he started balding at 16. I felt kind of bad for the kid, but tried to give him tips on how to make what he had work.'
A common theme seems to be the fact that children grow into their features as they get older.
Huiki commented: 'I think my son is a good looking boy now...but my god he was an ugly baby. He sort of looked like a cross between a monkey and a frog. No lie he had a hairy forehead until he was about six months old. Then bam! Suddenly he became cute.'
And MotterFodder has perhaps the best anecdote, saying: 'My daughter born with this ridiculous nose and I gasped in the delivery room.
'I was so bad, I noticed it immediately. It looked like a f****** beak. Luckily it turned out that it was really swollen from pushing against my insides during my 26 hour labour. It's much much better now.'
Some users even expressed that they regret sharing photos of their new babies.
One commenter wrote: 'I think 95 per cent of newborns are ugly. I naturally thought my daughter was the most beautiful creature on the planet...six months later looking back on newborn photos I was horrified that I posted some of them on social media.'
Meanwhile, in 2018, a study found that adults find that babies only take on cute characteristics when they reach six months of age.
The 'cute' characteristics include big eyes, chubby cheeks and cooing noises - thought to bring out a nurturing instinct in adults that better ensure their survival.
Lead author Professor Tony Volk from Brock University in Ontario, said: 'We want to let parents know that if they're not instantly grabbed by this baby as much as they thought they might be, then that's normal.
'The bonding will build and grow over time.'
